Method to designing an extra tall ceiling



Points to consider:

  1. The distance between the platform and ceiling should be 10 meters. However this spaciousness produces a “hole” effect making the vertical area not proportional resulting in narrowing. Designers have created various methods in order to make it more proportional.

False Ceiling Method

  1. Reducing the distant between the ceiling and platform will make it more spacious visually.
  2. No matter if its a false, painted, curtain or mirror ceiling, if the emphasis of the room is placed on it then when a person lies on their bed and looks above it can make them feel cheerful. However, the platform must not be camouflaged too much.
  3. Wisely use space. Smart design methods include lifting the platform, installing a ceiling space, using the right materials, making the design not feel crowded and not easy to fall down. There are some necessary techniques that need to be known.
  4. Majority of property owners would choose to change their platform or ceiling because this does not make the room or space look any different or crowded. If the ceiling height is 13 meters or above, you can try using a series of circles as design like round ceiling, carpet and dining table. The effect would create a harmony environment.
  5. In a 500 square feet, 2 living 2 room flat, if different themes like false ceiling for living room, platforms for rooms and creating both glamorous and modern style then it makes the atmosphere confusing and not an ideal interior design method

Points about design platform:

  1. Installing light in platforms: There are 2 methods: first, dig empty the wood boards and cement, install a decoration box that is same level as the platform. Second, lift up the wood box platform and put in a toughen accessory box. Not only can you put various things like dolls, pop cans, keys and models but you can also make your own beach inside the box and put shells or accessory
  2. LED light not suitable for home: LED light is in style; thus designers like to use it to decorate at the platform's edge to make it look cyber-like. However, LED lights give off a strong business feel so it is not quite suitable to be used at home. If there is a swimming pool or outdoor balcony, LED lights can be used to create a specific atmosphere.

Points when designing false ceiling

  1. Design of false ceiling: overly heavy false ceiling gives off an outdated atmosphere giving off the image of 80s home. This design is eliminated instead using a simple long light to hide the pillar and air conditioner.
  2. Installing mirror in ceiling: by replacing the ceiling with mirror, it can stretch the deepness of the ceiling. Installing thin strips of mirror also has a same function. However, do not randomly design glass or else it can make people dizzy. If you confirm to use glass ceiling, then use 40%~50% reflecting grey or black tinted glass and not full reflective clear glass.
  3. Oil painting ceilings : have you ever thought of painting a picture on the ceiling? If not treated properly, it can appear like its going to drop. To decrease the cost, you can choose to use wallpaper instead.
  4. Curtain ceilings to produce a resort atmosphere: place a wave-designed, white curtain to create clouds and accessories with baby blue furniture to recreate that Mediterranean feeling or using bamboo furniture to create that Thai resort.
