Worker injured from falling tools

An air conditioning worker was repairing the air conditioning at a school at Kowloon City. While working, his head was hit by a 6 meter long plastic frame that was slipped from the hands of a worker who was on the balcony. Blood flowed from his head and dripped onto his clothes. He was sent to the hospital to be treated.

Wu (37 years old), the injured worker, was working with Mok (36 years old) on air condition repair for a school located on Grampian Road at Kowloon City. The accident occurred at approximately 3pm. Wu was working on the 1st floor’s exterior wall and Mok on the 2nd floor balcony. A plastic border that was 6 meters long and 5 inch wide was slipped off of Mok’s hand and hit Wu’s head. Blood was flowing onto his face and clothes. Luckily, the injury was not too serious.

Mok contacted the police. Medical workers treated Wu’s injury on the spot and then sent him to the hospital.

Points to be caution：
  1. A Professional company should have staff guideline to remind workers, a safety helmet must be worn on construction sites. Only formally trained and experienced workers should be let into the site.
  2. According from the detail of OHSAS 18001, staff should always be caution in a construction site as accidents may suddenly happen. Moreover, workers must wear enough safety equipment to ensure safety. Protective eye and ear wear should be worn when needed.
  3. For families, workers are to be reminded to consider the safety of the people around them as well as themselves. Never misplace materials and tools as it is unsafe to do so.
  4. Concentrate when working. Never work when sick or intoxicated.
