Worker fell off a building and dies, labor union rushed to make laws to control work during bad weather conditions

A young worker, during typhoon signal no.three, worked on erecting the outside shelter. It was suspected that when he unlocked his safety belt to change his location, he slipped and fell straight down to the first floor platform.

Points to be caution:

  1. Workers should not be allowed to work in bad weather conditions. A contractor with a good reputation should have strict rules and regulations for their workers, not neglect safety and allow the construction to be in any risk.
  2. There are certain interior design companies and self-employed workers who will not purchase insurance due to various reasons or being not qualified enough resulting in lack of protection. A well established design company will have a better mindset about insurance, thus a more complete protection like Employee Insurance, Third Arty Liability, Engineering Insurance, Property All Risk, etc.
  3. Property owners should buy insurance for the construction as well. On one hand it can prevent responsibility if the contractor does not purchase insurance. On the other hand, if the contractor's insurance has different protections, it adds on making it more complete.
  4. Workers must follow all the safety rules and regulations when building a shield: building a standard shield, wearing a proper safety belt, and have it secured in place to prevent falling.
  5. A full body harness is safer than a half body harness because it spreads out the weight of the person equally minimizing damage.
  6. The more understanding of safety, the more protected you are.
  7. If a worker is found to work in high levels without any safety equipment, inform the Labor Department immediately.
