One and a half year old infant in critical condition after being tossed in a washing machine for one minute

The 16 months old infant was curious but didn't know the dangers. He was suspected to have got into the washing machine by using the laundry basket as stairs, climbing onto the washing machine, opened the door, lost balance and dropped into the working machine. He was tossed inside for at least a minute before the mother could rescue him. He was sent to the hospital, luckily he was saved but is in critical condition.

Points to be caution:

  1. The washing machines on the market today are still not offering enough child protection. Parents should watch their children carefully and distant them away from hazardous home appliances.
  2. Users should refrain from collecting water or soak clothes in the washing machine. Miscellaneous items like clothes basket, clothes and stools should not be placed near washing machine to prevent children climbing
  3. Parents should educate their children to not play near the washing machine when it is in usage and not go inside it when playing hide-&-seek or any hiding games.
  4. Parents may want to purchase washing machines with auto-lock function to ensure protection for children.
  5. Consumer may take Consumer Council announcements about the safety of washing machines in consideration to make sure it has passed the safety test.
  6. On top of that, parents should be aware of other home traps. They may find a professional interior design company to design and create an environment suitable for children to avoid any unnecessary accidents like installing protection on the corners of the tables and cabinets.
  7. Find an interior designer who can design furniture suitable for the child's height like bed, desk, child, etc.
  8. A plug can be placed in the door cracks. This can naturally minimize percentage of falling and clamping
