Take life accident | A Pakistani male worker fell down and died when doing scaffolding work in Kadoorie Hill
On 13th December 2022, a 42 years old Pakistani male scaffolding worker fell down from a 3 metres place, when he was working in a 3 floors’ flat in No.42A Kadoorie Avenue, Kadoorie Hill, Ho Man Tin. The sufferer dropped to the platform’s baluster, his head was bleeding and sent to Kwong Wah Hospital. Failed to rescue at the end.

It is noticed that the sufferer has had 3 children. When the accident was incurred, it was his first day on duty. The police are now checking whether the sufferer was wearing the seat belt during the working time.

Design Information Centre would like to remind everyone the following items, to pay attention to the importance of occupational safety and avoid fatal accidents.
  1. Before choosing a renovation company, one should realize the structure and ability of a company, for example if the company provides regular staff training, the resume and the strength of designers and how professional are the renovation workers, and employ a large-scaled, well known and experienced company. Also, companies should be accredited the ISO International Certification, and have to be strictly examined by banks which offering interest-free instalment will be preferable and more reliable.
  2. Don’t choose discreditable companies because of low prices to avoid unnecessary loss.
  3. Where any work is in progress, all workers and mentors have to comply with the regulations strictly so as to protect the safety and interest of any parties.
  4. Before choosing a renovation company, be aware if that company purchased labor insurance.
  5. When working in a high place, the workers must wear the seat belt and link it to unmovable place to ensure the safety.
If owners hire unregistered constructors to perform the 126 items of building works included in Minor Works Control System, even owners purchased related insurance before the project begin, Insurance may consider that owner may be charged and bear any possible accident arise. Incurring greater loss, hence choosing a registered contractor would just be your best choice.

Design Information Centre has been registered as a minor works contractor ‘Smart Will Engineering Limited’ (Buildings Department registration no.: MWC 4320/2011) to carry out related construction and minor works. To avoid misunderstandings or conflicts between different parties, remember to inquire clearly before fitting out.
