A boy died after fall from the ventilation window of a flat in Laguna City while sleeping on the upper deck of the bunk bed
A news on 1st March 2021 reported that a nine-year-old boy living in Laguna City, Lam Tin, was believed to fall from the flat, he was seriously injured and lost consciousness on the terrace, his mother discovered and called the police. The police and ambulance officers arrived, the child was declared dead after being taken to United Christian Hospital.

His father realized his son was not in his bedroom after he woke up, he then went down to the street to make a fruitless search, after going back home, he found that the ventilation window in his son’s room was opened, looking down the probe, he found that his son was lying down on the terrace, the boy’s mother called the police for help.

Design Information Centre would like to remind everyone:
  1. Parents can install window grilles, also, sofas and bunk beds should not be placed next to the window to avoid accidents when children climb.
  2. Do not leave children unattended at home, they should be accompanied by adults at home, to avoid dangers caused by children' lack of crisis awareness.
  3. If renovation or maintenance is needed, choose contractors registered in Buildings Department for carrying out minor works to ensure safety.
  4. We suggest that young children should not sleep on the upper bed to avoid accidents.
  5. When ordering furniture for the flat, parents can tell the designers if they have children at home, so that the designers can emphasize on the children's safety.
  6. When planning the furniture design and placing at home, think about the potential dangers to the children before making decisions.
Design Information Centre has been registered as a minor works contractor ‘Smart Will Engineering Limited’ (Buildings Department registration no.: MWC 4320/2011) to carry out related construction and minor works.
