Incomplete Renovation Victims

Recently, “Scoop” reported a fitting out trap, the victim Mr. Ho asked a fitting out company which was owned by his friend for renovation. However, half year after the payment was settled, the work was still not completed, lots of places in the flat were even broken, the wall after renovation was uneven, the windows and doors could not be closed, the switch location was crooked, the sink in the washroom had serious water leakage. Finally, Mr. Ho not only had to pay more renovation fee, but also disturbed by debt-collection agency, he felt so aggrieved.

To avoid such incidence, Design Information Centre would like to remind everybody the following precautions:
  1. It is advised to consult with trusted companies and it is must to know well the corporate strengths and the scale prior to choosing any company. Normally, the famous and experienced companies receive international certifications in the related business, for example, ISO 9001:2015 the quality management system, ISO 14001:2004 the environment management system and OHSAS 18001:2007 the occupational health and safety assessment series.
  2. Pay attention to the company’s management culture prior to choosing any renovation company, and whether the company provides different trainings for frontline and backline staff.
  3. It is necessary to know the specifications of the contract rules and commitment of services prior to any construction, make a precise and clear agreement as far as possible, make sure each title and total expense of the project, mark the method of payment and procedures specifically, and sign the agreement upon reciprocal consent.
  4. It is advised to request the company list each outgoing title prior to renovation and any overrun title shall be reported prior to construction. Do avoid choosing the low offer since the hidden grey zone will generate considerable overrun budgets.
  5. In the event of finding any inconformity and in need of claiming the item from the company, it is advised to take pictures with backup to claim it afterward for protecting your personal interests.
  6. It is advised to choose the companies offering payables in interest-free installments since the companies making such option available to customers have to pass the strict review of the banks including the corporate financial status, so such companies are relatively reliable. The agreement signed by both parties shall mark how the payable of the renovation expense is paid, e.g. number of periods, monthly payment date and amount of each payment.
The Design Information Center has already been registered as “Smart Will Engineering Limited”（Building Department Registration Number: MWC 4320/2011）, which is a contractor for the small-scale construction project.

Our company will not take the responsibility to provide the insurance cover (e.g. labour insurance and the warranty of every project), 3-year structural warranty of the residential project and 1-year structural warranty of the commercial project if the project did not follow the above payment request. Without the insurance cover and structural warranty, it will be hard to keep the engineering quality and also an incomplete project will appeared🤯, and client may carry unnecessary loss. 💸
