23 year old worker falls off when building shelter ar Sorrento

Minor Works Control System has been fully in effect since 31 December in 2010. According to the Building ( Minor Works) Regulation, If owners hire unregistered contractors to perform the 126 items of building works included in Minor Works Control System, owners may incur liability. Besides, owners may also be charged and bear any possible damages if any accidents arise. It is never worth doing so and hence choosing a registered contractor would just be your best choice.

A 23 year old scaffolding worker fell to his death from high levels while working and body was separated into parts. Labour department took the safety belt and metal bracket for investigation.

Points to be caution :
  1. Property owners are susceptible to a fine up to $100,000HKD when they hire non-registered contractors and non- registered minor works contractor may be subjected to imprisonment of 18 months and a fine up to $500,000HKD.
  2. For guaranteed protection, property owners and contractor must purchase related insurance to minimize the damage if any does happen.
  3. Citizens should find a well established and registered minor works contractor to do any small construction work. The company will provide enough safety equipment and regular training for workers when the company is well established. This minimizes the the neglectfulness which can lead to accidents.
  4. Every contractor and worker must wear a safety belt when doing work from high levels. When they have set up their safety belt, they will carefully check to see if its safe and installed properly to reassure safety.
  5. Contractors and workers are the ensure the mobile crane is installed correctly and test it afterwards to make sure its secure onto the cement or designated spot.
  6. Every worker on the field must follow the rules and regulations.
  7. DIC will provide regular training for our workers including courses about first aid, fire prevention and safety/hazard management to ensure they have knowledge about safety and what to do in an emergency. These courses are also mandatory for front-line workers to make sure they have safety knowledge and to improve their emergency management.
