Unauthorised building works are building works that are built without authorisation. According to the Building Ordinance, if anyone has unauthorised building works on their balcony, platform, patio, etc. they are entitled to immediate removal to prevent any potential danger for the public. Erection of UBW is listed as a ˇ§Minor Building Workˇ¨ according to the Building Ordinance (Cap.118), thus the public should must hire a Registered Minor Works Contractors to conduct any erection of UBW. If the residential owner hires a non-registered Minor Works Contractors to conduct any minor building works, they may be deemed for legal responsibility and be susceptible for a fine up to $100,000HKD (For more information, can visit government's website).
