prepares for future

Design Information Centre always rates staff training highly. Recently we have established a training centre in Mong Kok Road, provides a training ground for our own staff and members and staff of Hong Kong Famous Designers Association. There are a number of purposes and targets to set up this training centre. Let' s have a look on the concept of this centre.

Provides training and information channel

Hong Kong government encourages life-long learning. Every person should equip themselves with new knowledge constantly, so as to keep up the pace of the fast changing society. The government also established a qualifications framework, which provides an evaluation benchmark for various industries, like security guards and hairdressers etc. Within renovation design industry, there is "safety card" already. It is expected that designer license, furniture salesperson certificate and even furniture installation qualified certificate will be appeared in the coming future. Besides qualifications framework, the government also has great concerns over product safety. In our training centre, we would follow the qualifications framework to provide staff training for colleagues from different departments. At the same time, we would also supply latest product information, usage guidelines and safety standards to our staff. In addition, competition from Mainland China becomes increasingly intense as Mainland youngsters are more ambitious and aggressive. This training centre is the right place for the next generation designers and workers to equip themselves.

Quality and Technology

Consumers become increasingly demanding nowadays. Try to avoid complaints is not the right strategy anymore. Instead, we have to learn the skills on how to deal with clients' complaints proactively. One could only know their weaknesses if they could handle the problems, and hence knowing how to avoid making the same mistake again. This centre plans to apply Client Complaint Quality Control System ISO 10002:2004 and it is a great place to teach our staff on how to deal with complaints and release pressure.

Environment protection is a worldwide trend now, and therefore, Design Information Centre plans to apply Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2004.

This training centre would be the place of information release, platform for knowledge exchange, and the focal point that our staff could gather more useful information. All kinds of working skills related activities, like Elements software, measurement skills, works skills, communication and presentation skills with clients and team building activities would be hosted here.

Pressure release centre

Staff of all levels has to face challenges from various aspects: market competition, clients' requests, and even comes from self transcendence. Suffocating pressure would reduce working efficiency. We believed that learning could release a great deal of the pressure. The training centre could be changed to a mini-cinema, banquet venue etc from time to time, letting our staff to learn team spirit, improve EQ, AQ and release pressure through various ways leisurely after working hours.

Chinese Design Style

1 Mong Kok Road may be just a training centre, but how could our colleagues not grasp this chance to show-off their design skills? The whole centre adopts a Chinese design style, catching up with the overall trend perfectly. The lobby area uses wooden-grain board materials, together with bamboo pattern tiny platform, classical Chinese style table, Chinese writing brush holder and ink slab as decorations, where passenger seems to enter a special space of Confucious elegance. The exquisite wall decorations are the first thing catching people' s eyes, and the hand holding the red lantern seemed to be giving guidance to the persons who are going to the training centre.

Multi-purpose Room

This area divides into two main parts: executive area and speech room. There are a lot of bookshelves in the executive area, and it uses the bookshelves dividing into a few independent working areas. Design Information Centre always pays a lot of attention on lighting installation, and the lighting of this area is also full of Chinese style. The other half of the space facing the street is the speech room, letting ample of sunlight seeping through the windows. It is environmental friendly and ensures the learners to be more energetic. There are no fixed seats in this speech room, so it could be altered into a mini-cinema, entertainment room and even banquet venue anytime.

1. The lobby is full of classical beauty.
2a/2b. The giant bookshelves could not only store a large number of reference books, but could also divide the room space.
3. There is a rest area at the other side of the bookshelf. Staff could enjoy their leisure time here or discuss with customers.
