Yuppies tend to have strict requirements for life. Home is a platform to relax and relieve from stress at work. In pursue of a perfect home design and enjoy the true meaning of life, the 1,000 square feet featured apartment is just a place for the owner to enjoy a good life in the house of his own.


The layout of the entire space is actually “solitary-oriented” without being interfered by others. There is no cocern on children’s safety and there is no compromise between storage capacity and design. As the owner is a middle-aged man who lives by his own, he has a good taste of life. He is determined to introduce his personal preferences in the design as he truly enjoy travelling.

This 1,000 square-foot apartment is designed according to the owner’s taste and requirement. There was a change in space partitioning. With the 4-rooms layout, there was a long and narrow corridor. It is a perfect layout for a big family as it provides more privacy for each family members. However this is not the perfect choice for the owner. The owner wants to have an open area with limited partitions for a relax environment. The room adjacent to the living room is designed with multi-purpose room in Japanese-style with a sliding door and a floor platform. It can be connected to the corridor when it is opened.

Another small room which serves as an open cloakroom, it is designed in Baron European style to look like an exhibition area. The master bedroom is connected with the adjacent small room to form a large home office, allowing the owner to work while enjoying the views of Tolo Harbour.


British style with linear design

The space is properly organised according to the owner’s daily habits, and the house layout is meticulously designed to meet the owner needs. The stylish and noble British style is one of the most popular design in recent years. It is displayed in a combination of artistic temperament, linear patterns and colors. The wall stretching from the living room to the dining room is laid with greyish-blue wallpaper, and dining room side is decorated with a set of white wooden frames to match with an electric wall stove to create a harmonious British atmosphere. The wall on the other side is adorned with a long row of mirror strips of irregularly lengths that seems to conceal the slim wall TV in the dining room. The dining table and chairs in front of the mirror-decorated wall has introduced a versatility to the space.

A brown leather oil painting was the only decorations in the living room for a nostalgic feeling, it echoes with the overall layout. The TV back wall opposite the sofa is laid with imitation wood grain wallpaper with embossed textures. The designer Steve noted that the undulating wallpaper surface is a symbol of British art element.


The wall stove design fills the room with warmth and echoes with the soft back cushions sofa. It is such a perfect place for home party.

The dining and living room are laid with grayish-blue wallpaper and decorated with white wooden frames, which is the perfection match with the marble frame of the wall stove. The colors and linear pattern presented the elegant British style.

The electric wall stove decorated with a delicate marble frame sets off the weight from the British style.

The grayish-blue wallpaper matches perfectly with white leather sofa with a lusty oil finish to display a fashionable British look.


Japanese “Zen” atmosphere to rest one’s mind and soul

A Japanese-style sliding door separates the living room with the owner’s private areas, consisting of a storage room, reading room and a meditation space. As Japan is one of the owner’s favourite place to visit, he has collected a number of Japanese hanging ornaments. The Japanese-style multipurpose room room serves as an exhibition area to display these hanging decorations. The floor platform of about 8 inches high is placed with comfortable tatami cushions on the top, one of the platform ends has a floor-to-ceiling storage cabinet and the other end a door placed with a cushioned backrest for the owner to meditate. It is aimed to create a quiet space to escape the hustle and allow the mind and soul to rest.

The corridor leading to the bedroom has an attractive Japanese-style sliding door that can serve as a separation and allow clear visibility of the decorations in the multi-purpose room.

The bathroom entrance is located at the end of the corridor, and separating the main bathroom with a glass panel.

To integrate the long and narrow corridor with the entire layout, the Japanese-style room is built with a sliding door adjacent to the corridor and an open cloakroom on the other side. The interior decorations of cloakroom are fully visible as there are no walls.

The Japanese-style multi-purpose room has a floor platform about 8 inches and a floor-to-ceiling storage cabinet. The room is perfect for meditation to relax and relived from pressure at work.

The multifunctional wardrobe features a vertical mirror door, hangers and drawers for clothing.

The master bedroom with a clear view of the sea

Another design highlight lies in the master bedroom. There is a glass enclosure on the left consisting of a bathroom and the main bathroom, the doors of which are located on the corridor. They have switchable glasses to allow the owner to watch the outside views while having a shower.

The wall separating the master room and the adjoining room has been torn down as requested by the owner to create an open working area, allowing the owner to on work. The clear visibility of the landscape is definitely helpful at work.


The small room and the master room is connected for a large bedroom-office combo, allowing the owner to have a working environment amid an open view for more energy at work.

The glass room is divided into a mater bathroom and guest bathroom, with the entrance located at the corridor end. Each area is separated by switchable glasses which it can either be transparent or opaque, allowing the owner to enjoy the outside views while having a shower.

The bookshelf is well organised with light tubes on atop, accessories can be placed on top of the bookshelf. The owner can enjoy his collections while lying on bed.

The main bathroom has a simplistic design and decorated with wooden strips on the ceiling, it just feels like a sauna room.
