The preferences of adults can be huge different from that of children. How can we satisfy the requirements of the entire family? In this interior design case, the designer has spent a lot of effort to design a trendy home for the owners while an electronic game theme child’s room.
This project is located at Ma On Shan Double Cove which has a usable area of 795 square feet. The apartment has three rooms, a maid’s room and two living rooms for the owners, the son, an elderly and a domestic servant. As the unit is a newly completed property, the original kitchen and bathroom design remain unchanged.
The square layout of the apartment has a shortcoming of having a rectangular-shaped living room. Interior Designer Steve said: “The window located in the living room has made the vestibule lack of light. As the owners wanted the vestibule to be brighter and also more storage space. The owners also want to install the old steam oven and baking over. We have to be careful in design planning.”
The owners also want to install a screen in the living room to avoid a direct view of the hallway from the entrance door. To avoid the vestibule from being lack of light, so Steve has designed a well-proportioned screen that can also provide extra storage space.
The hallway leading to the bedrooms is decorated to generate a lively atmosphere
The extended central kitchen cabinet connected with the dining table is especially designed to install a steam oven and baking oven
The vestibule decorated in hickory and white paint is highly fashionable
Highly organized checkered screen
The dining room near the kitchen door is built with central kitchen cabinet to accommodate the owners’ steam oven and oven underneath. The white dining table connected to the central kitchen cabinet with an original bench and wooden dining chairs coherent with the rough wall texture.
The large storage cabinet connecting the screen next to the dining room is considered a major focus of the house. It has a large storage capacity and a unique irregularly-trimmed door panel that is highly decorative. The wall behind the TV in the living room has continued to use a similar concept of the cabinet door, and the shelves behind the sofa has continued to use the special shelving element of the screen to create a unified feeling to the dining room.
Interesting game theme
The child’s room is the centre of the whole design. As the son is very fond of video games, so the child’s room is highlighted with game elements on the walls and cabinet door trims. Even the ceiling is painted in fancy blue to match with the grid white clouds found in games.
As compared with the child’s room, the layout of the master room and the elder room is relatively simple by using the white tone. One of the major focuses is that both rooms have a large storage cabinet to meet the storage needs. The owner wished to have his bed to be accessible from three sides, but after considering that there was not enough space for a wardrobe, so the bed was chosen to place by the window instead, and accompanied with a curved-shaped wardrobe.
