The apartment’s rooms are small yet are paired with huge window sills. To counter this issue, the designer utilized many methods by using every inch of space to make the room more practical and appealing. Mirrors were used to visually expand spaciousness.
Light & Shadow visually creates space
The apartment being introduced here is around 900 square feet which is sufficient of the owner, his wife and son. The owner wishes to have all his storage space to be in the rooms while placing a piano in the living room. The designer went a practical and minimalistic route. When one enters the apartment, they are greeted with a charcoal glass storage shelf which was custom made according to the wall’s structure. The shelf’s main purpose is to store shoes and is the only storage unit in the living room. A piano is placed in the corner. The charcoal glass of the shelf and the black piano complements each other. An illusion of a bigger area will appear as the light from the window shines onto the charcoal glass. The dining room directly faces the kitchen. The door to the kitchen is replaced with a sliding door to make the area sleeker. The door is a black glass door bringing in the dining room and kitchen together creating the illusion of having more space. There is a hidden door next to the wall. Behind that door is the hallway leading to bedrooms. Space is saved by using hidden and sliding doors.
The charcoal mirror shelf is located at the entrance ($23,100)
The light reflects off of the shelf bringing in more light to the area
The kitchen door blocks the smoke and oil but does not block the view
Three rooms turn into two
In order to spice up the nine meter long hallway, the designer used some of the bedroom space to create a shelf. To maximize storage space, the desk, closet, and bed in linked together onto the platform. This utilizes the height of the room.
The original master bedroom was too small. It was not enough to build a closet; therefore, the room next to it was used to expand the master bedroom creating more room. The window sill of the other room was made into a closet completely closing the window space. This created a small closet without blocking the view. The upper half of it is made with glass. The simple glass stickers creates simplicity. The crystal chandelier adds elegance and warmth to the area.
